Contemporary Basketry with Japanese Influence

  2008 Workshops and Lectures

I have been teaching basketry since shortly after my first series of classes with Rachel Seidel Gilman.
New York City's Office of Cultural Affairs offered her a short-term job teaching free basketry classes in
a vacant store-front on 53rd Street and Fifth Avenue. I drove in from Long Island to co-teach it, and a
new career was started. We found it so satisfying to watch the participants' faces as they realized they
could weave a basket in an hour right in the heart of Manhattan. I continue to teach and love every
(well, almost every) minute of it.
